FEP encapsulated o-rings are highly recommended for hostile environments for instances where a standard o-ring is not adequate enough in terms of chemical resistance for the application it is to be used with.
FEP encapsulated silicon o-rings are used where there is chemical resistance in play. If a solid PTFE o-ring does not offer the relevant level of elasticity for fluid sealing it offers an effective alternative. They are used within a number of industries, including chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and the food industry. The product is used is mostly static applications but can also be effective when used with rotary applications that offer slow dynamic movement and short movements.
There are a number of benefits linked to these seals, with FEP encapsulated o-rings offering a great level of resistance within a wide range of applications. They can be used within applications where operational temperatures range from -60°C to +260°C (with a silicone core), and -20°C to +204°C (with a fluorocarbon core).
Other benefits include a much better level of elasticity when compared with a standard and solid PTFE o-ring, and there is also the characteristic that the seal offer low friction and an effect of low levels of coefficient of friction within the application.

Description
FEP is a thermoplastic material with properties similar to PTFE. O-rings which are seamlessly coated with FEP have an elastic core made from FPM or VMQ and are used if very high thermal or chemical loads are present. The high chemical resistance of the coating protects the core against damage by the potentially aggressive medium.
FEP coated O-rings are used – similar to PTFE-rings – where the chemical resistance of the normal elastomer O-ring is no longer sufficient, but where a certain elasticity is needed. The elasticity is ensured by the inner ring and the chemical resistance is achieved by the seamless FEP coating.
Applications
FEP coated O-rings are perfectly suited for the chemical and petrochemical sector, medical technology, food sector, water and waste water technology and similar industrial applications. A typical application for FEP coated O-rings is the sealing of valve stems and as a secondary sealing element for slow switching and rotary movements.
