2.1 Rubber Shock Absorbers for Automobiles

With the development of society and economy, the domestic and foreign automobiles are changing frequently and the automobile industry is facing a period of rapid change. The development is characterized by ensuring driving safety, riding comfort, high speed and luxury. To further improve the service life of the car. The shock-absorbing products are used to control the vibration and noise of the car and improve its handling stability. They are generally placed in the parts of automobile engine frame, strut devices, suspension bushings, center bearing brackets, jounce limiters and torsional vibration dampers. The structure of the rubber buffer is a rubber layer sandwiched between two metal plates, and the purpose of buffering is achieved by utilizing shear deformation of the rubber. Recently, a new type of cylinder buffer, which is filled with nitrogen gas and co-existed with a shock absorber oil, has been developed. The feature is to increase the load capacity of the shock absorber (up to 20 MPa), provide good shock absorption, and prolong its service life. The rubber materials used in automotive rubber shock absorbers are based on NR and SBR. In order to improve the heat resistance of the shock-absorbing products, IR, IIR, CR, EPDM, etc. have been used as main materials. Thermoplastic elastomers will also be used for some shock-absorbing products, such as body and chassis shock absorbers.
